I could make a road trip with my wife and kids and we could find out for sure.
So my eldest went to see '9' last night. He LOVED it. According to him, cool story, INCREDIBLE ANIMATION. I really want to go, but with the family schedule this week, I don't see it as happening. Probably the next thing that I am seeing for sure with no chance of missing is ZOMBIELAND! Hellz yeah I will be there with my redneck on.
*note probably shouldn't be drinking and posting again, but what the heck. _________________ I plan on living forever. So far so good... |

Following my other Tommy Lee Jones movie, I watched The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. Tommy's directorial debut as well as his being the lead actor. The movie is set on the Texas Mexico border and has some very beautiful Texas mountain scenery. It stars Barry Pepper, Dwight Yoakam, Julio Cesar Dedillo, and January Jones. Its some old fashion justice in your own hands cowboy style. Its somewhat slow, but I think overall its a decent film. If you like Tommy Lee Jones, its worth adding to your viewing. _________________ I've got too much energy to switch off my mind. But not enough to get myself organized! -theThe

I went 5 days without watching a movie? what's wrong with me!!!
Watched Knowing last night. You either like Nick Cage or you don't I guess. The movie was interesting until the ending. I'm kinda tired of seeing NYC getting destroyed by whatever natural disaster, global disaster, monster, etc. I say just leave New York City alone!
So lets see if I can make a "as Jim would say" outta this one...
(thinking)
As Jim would say, "Its a love story with numbers, a time capusal, and an out of this world ending!" _________________ I've got too much energy to switch off my mind. But not enough to get myself organized! -theThe

Watched Some Girl this morning. It must be Juliette Lewis week on Showtime or something as Kalifornia was on last night.
Some Girl is the sordid tale of four female 'friends' looking for love in LA. Not really a likable character in the bunch. But J. Lewis as April was certainly the worst. I couldn't help but watch the people and think, "This is why axe-murderers were invented!". It's a love story - with pathetic losers.
Kalifornia on the other hand is a taunt thriller. David Duchovny and Michelle Forbes (better known as Ensign Ro Laren from ST:TNG) drive cross country with hitchhiking psychopath Brad Pitt and his puppy Juliette Lewis. A good body count keeps this one moving right along. It's a love story. (nothing needs added as that is what the movie really is at its heart. Sure there's domestic abuse and murder, but it's really a love story.) _________________ I plan on living forever. So far so good... |

RAN, The A. Kirosawa classic of a Samuri Lord and his 3 sons. The aging Lord decides to divide his fiefdom among his 3 sons, giving power and title to the oldest. The youngest, and a loyal Lt. both proteset, saying it would be a mistake, and are subsequently disowned and banished. Of course they prove right. The story is beautifully shot with excellent period costumes and several huge feudal battle scenes. Court intrigue, double crossing, insanty, a jester, pure innocents and vengful women..... Yep, it sounds like Shakespeare.... because it is. Kirosawa is noted because several of his films were copied as Westerns (7 Samuri/Magnificent 7, Kagemushi/Fistful of Dollars). But Ran is essentialy a fuedal Japenese verson of King Lear. Even the masters 'borrow' from earlier masters sometimes. _________________ "Cinderella Story. Outta nowhere. My wifey and have had a Hannibal fest recently. After catching Silence of the Lambs on the tube we decided to pop Hannibal, then Red Dragon into the DVD. We still have Hannibal Rising to go. Not viewing them in chronological order, but at least in the order they were released. Should really look for a good copy of Manhunter some day. It is the original movie on the first book that was remade as Red Dragon. It starred William Peterson (CSI, Gil Grissom) in the role played by Ed Norton and a different Hannibal and is from the mid 80's _________________ "Cinderella Story. Outta nowhere. Wow, I just watched an unexpected surprise... Redbelt. I saw it on previews from another movie and figured, what the heck. Its about martial arts and I figured it was going to be another "fight" movie. Turns out its more about honor and the fight to keep it against the temptations of greed. Sure its a bit "Karate Kidish" but I really like the sense of honor instead of the glory.
Decent cast with some familiar names: Tim Allen, Joe Mantegna, Randy Couture, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini. It stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as the main character.
And as I said, an unexpected surprise for me. _________________ I've got too much energy to switch off my mind. But not enough to get myself organized! -theThe

It's been too quiet around here. Just wanted to let everybody know. You really do NEED to see Zombieland. Fantastic all the way around. _________________ I plan on living forever. So far so good... |

Watched Nothing But The Truth last night... good cast; Matt Dillon, Kate Beckinsale, Alan Alda and a few others.
Decent portrayal of a journalists rights to protect a source, a minor 'anti-governent' theme, and some twists and turns. Not an action film.
As Jim would say: "A love story with a newspaper and governmental flaws!" _________________ I've got too much energy to switch off my mind. But not enough to get myself organized! -theThe

The Innocents, a 1960 horror(?) film starring Deborah Kerr. All Victorian period setting and costumes, a shaky narrative where the lead makes a lot of assumptions based on who knows what, not logical and not scary.
Elmer Gantry, also from 1960. Burt Lancaster won the best actor Oscar and Shirley Jones won a best supporting actress Oscar for this powerful film about how a traveling salesman gets involved in the Church Rivival movement of the 1920's. This poweful piece also stars Jean Simmons.
Looking for some good classic horror this past weekend ....Stanley Kubrics "The Shining", hard to beat for mood, photography and acting. "Heeeeres Johnny!"
Pulled the very first DVD I bought, The Haunting. More of a modern twist on classic haunted house stories, it has a minimum of gore, and a maximum of atmosphere. It stars Liam Neeson, Lili Taylor, Owen Wilson and Catherine Zeta-Jones. What I liked about this flick are the beautiful sets and the fantastic sound. With a good sound sytem all the creaks groans and bumps, the rattling door knobs and etherial calls of ghostly children.... great stuff. _________________ "Cinderella Story. Outta nowhere.
