I'm in the market for a new P&S... I've had 3 Kodaks and love their ease of use and get many compliments on my pics. I feel like there are probably even better ones than mine. Any suggestions?

I've always been a big Canon Digital Elph fan. I'd say this is the brand and style of camera owned by th majority of photographers I know. In other words, the people who take pictures for a living use these as thier point and shoot cameras.

The Canon's will cost about 20% more than most other brands. However, there is a reason they are continually rated at the top of the Consumer Reports best buy list.

That being said, the last P&S camera I bought was a Sony DSC H-5. Great pics & great battery life.

About five years ago I bought a Fuji F440 for my mother. She still uses it and it takes great pics. The F30 I bought for my sister never made it to a year and the pics were never great. So that's pretty hit and miss.

I also have a Nikon L-5 that works decent in bright light with still objects. But dim and quick it does not do.

So after all is said, I'd say get a Canon digital elph like the SD-880.

Thanks again JS for the info....

When I was shopping for my last P&S the guy at Best Buy (I know, probably not the best reference) told me that a couple of things to look for when buying a P&S was a glass lense and a larger lens.

I actually did some research (well… read reviews and did comparisons online) when shopping for a new P&S last year. When all was said and done I was on my merry way to get a Canon because, as you said, that’s what seemed to ‘rank’ the best. I actually ended up buying one… using it for a day (I know I should have probably gave it more time but I wouldn’t have been able to return it). I was so nervous that I made the wrong choice I ended up taking it back and getting my Kodak Z712. For the period of time I used it, the Canon seemed MUCH slower than my older Kodak I had at the time and the pics from a Distance in a not so well lit room were HORRID. Maybe I did not have he settings correct but when trying to change the settings it seemed not so easy to use (maybe I was entirely to used to my Kodaks… I had 2 others previously)

I feel like it’s time for change, lol, but I’ve just had so much good luck with my Kodaks

JS, you mentioned in another post, Some P&S shoot that fast too, but not full resolution… How would I know that? What would the description of the camera say for me to know that was the case?!?!

If you didn't like the last Canon, you probably won't like the next. They all work exactly alike. This is one of the things that photogs love about them. OTOH, I can't stand the Kodaks. They don't have any buttons to do anything. There is no manual control over darn near anything. To each his/her own.

As for how fast they shoot in each mode, go into the store and try them. Also, the best places for reviews/features are http://www.steves-digicams.com/ and http://www.dpreview.com/ .
